Survey of Coronavirus: majority of Germans has no fear of the new Virus

59 percent of the people are not afraid of the Coronavirus to your health. This is the result of a survey of more than 1000 German. Rather than a personal contagion, people are concerned about the health of your family and friends. Only a few think it is likely to contract the Coronavirus.

About four out of ten respondents are worried due to the Coronavirus to your health, nearly six out of ten survey participants answered in the negative to this question. This is one of the results of a survey by FOCUS Online and the market research platform "Appinio". For a sample of N = 1010 persons from Germany, was concluded between 16 and 65 years, whose age and gender distribution is representative for the total population. The survey was mobile/plays online.

Particularly common in the 18-24 Year old is not, or not at all said that you are worried. On the question of the biggest Concerns in regards to the Coronavirus 53 percent of the survey participants said the risk of Infection from family and friends, especially in the age group of 45-54 Years of age, the fear was great.

Every Second feared a mass panic this fear was especially in the case of the 18-24-Year-olds pronounced. The own risk of Infection in the respondents, only 45 percent as a major worry, the death due to the disease with the Virus, 38 percent. Further, respondents were:

  • poor care in case of illness (31 percent)
  • Isolation/Quarantine (26 Percent)
  • Avoidance of sick/ Social exclusion (17%)
  • economic impacts, e.g., less tourism, a limited trade (15 percent), as well as
  • Reduced travel opportunities, for example, canceled flights (14 percent)

More than eight out of ten respondents thought it was unlikely, with the Coronavirus to infect.

The media reporting is perceived the respondents as just right or too much

69 percent, and thus most of the participants were informed on TV about the Coronavirus, 55 percent for Online news portals, and 34 percent using the Radios.

The amount of coverage on the topic is around four out of ten respondents are in favour of exactly the right (43 percent). Almost as many (42 percent) said it was going to talk to much about the Coronavirus. 16 percent think it’s going to be little reported.

Especially the group of 18 to 24-Year-olds, the coverage was too detailed. Here, the majority (56 percent) said that the issue of controlling too much, or even too much news. Exactly right, the coverage appeared, however, the majority of 16-17 Year olds and almost half of 45-54 Year olds.

The content of the respondents rated the messages are emotional rather than factual. 47 percent agreed with the statement “The media coverage I’m going to do panic”. 37 percent said “The media provide me with neutral, factual information about the Virus” and 16 percent said “The media trivialize the Situation with the Coronavirus”.

Adequately informed, about six out of ten of the respondents felt. On the nerve the subject was 37 percent of the participants. In addition, 85 percent agreed with, to feel compassion for the Sufferers.

The majority of people (56 per cent) sees the Virus as a real danger, therefore, 42 per cent believed that the Virus is more dangerous or much more dangerous than a flu. A further 35 per cent said it was equally dangerous. Especially the 55-65 Year-olds rated the novel Virus is more dangerous than a flu (48 percent of the reported). In the group of 18-24 Year-olds, the Virus looked at, however, especially many as a less dangerous (31 percent).

In order to reduce a risk of infection with the Coronavirus, belongs to less than a third (29 percent) different than usual. Measures referred to are:

  • more washing hands (74 percent)
  • more 59 per cent)disinfect (
  • Avoid crowds (51 percent)
  • Contact to groups of people from the affected areas, such as China, shun (40 percent)
  • Contact to sick people (38 percent)
  • To avoid, the Recently in affected areas (37 percent)
  • To strengthen the immune system, e.g. due to nutrition and vitamins (36 percent)
  • the public transport to avoid (29 percent)
  • Wear a respirator (6 per cent)

That Germany is prepared in the case of the spread of the Virus, well, the majority of respondents (59 percent). Also, the majority of the survey participants feel in Germany in terms of the Coronavirus is safe (68 percent).
